Grants

Several grants are available for SETAC members from different SETAC Geographic Units (GU). Members can apply for a grant available in their GU.

According to your SETAC membership type, you are eligible to one of the below grants.

Travel Assistance Grants

(1) SAP offers travel grants each worth SGD1,000 to assist Student Members of SETAC Asia-Pacific with the cost of registration, travel, and accomodation associated with attending SETAC 8th World Congress.

Initially 8 travel grants will be offered, but this may be increased if additional funding becomes available.

To be eligible, applicants must be a student member of SETAC resident in Asia-Pacific, and be a presenter at the SETAC 8th World Congress (i.e. an oral presenter or first author of a poster).

Applications must be submitted to ap@setac.org on the SAP Student Travel Award 2020 Application Form, accompanied by a scan of the applicant’s  current student ID, and received by the closing date.

Successful awards will be chosen by a selection panel appointed by SAP Board, on a competitive merit basis taking account of:

  • Length of time as a member of SETAC Asia-Pacific;
  • Stage of completion of study and whether studying full time or part time;
  • Availability of other sources of funding assistance.

(2) SAP offers travel grants each worth SGD1,000 to assist nationals of developing economies in Asia-Pacific with the cost of registration, travel, and accomodation associated with attending SETAC 8th World Congress.

Initially 4 travel grants will be offered, but this may be increased if additional funding becomes available.

To be eligible, applicants must be a national of a country in Asia-Pacific ranked as low or middle-income by the World Bank and be a presenter at the SETAC 8th World Congress (i.e. an oral presenter or first author of a poster).

Applications must be submitted to ap@setac.org on the National of Developing Country Travel Award 2020 Application Form, and received by the closing date.

Successful awards will be chosen by a selection panel appointed by SAP Board, on a competitive merit basis taking account of:

  • Length of time as a member of SETAC Asia-Pacific (if applicable). Non-members may apply;
  • Availability of other sources of funding assistance.

(3) SETAC Australasia offers travel grants each worth AUD2,350 to assist Student Members of SETAC Australasia with the cost of registration, travel, and accomodation associated with attending SSETAC 8th World Congress.

(4) SETAC Australasia offers travel grants each worth AUD3,500 to assist Non-Student Members of SETAC Australasia with the cost of registration, travel, and accomodation associated with attending SETAC 8th World Congress.

For the selected participants, the grants will cover registration and hotel costs for 5 nights.

Eligibility

Eligibility will be checked by the office before applications enter the competition:

  • Applicants must have an active SETAC Europe student or recent graduate membership (Europe, Middle East or Russia)
  • Be a student or early-career scientist (no more than 3 years after graduation BSc, MSc or PhD) and provide proof of student status or copy of the latest degree

Application Dossier

Applicants must submit the dossier to rebecca.bundschuh@setac.org by 15 April 2020:

  • Brief CV including contact details (maximum 2 pages)
  • A statement including each of the below-listed points (maximum 4 pages total):
    1. A list of activities in SETAC Europe (SE) (e.g. SE committees, session chair at SE meetings, regional branches council) within the last 3 years (2017- 2019).
    2. Motivation to participate at the World Congress in Singapore (e.g. research focus, network) and how participating benefits their own research or career.
    3. A list of activities at the World Congress in Singapore (e.g. student activities, poster or platform participation, or other activities).
    4. How the participation and planned activities in Singapore will be beneficial to SETAC Europe and SETAC as a global organization (e.g., act as an ambassador, initiate new activities, initiate new collaborations).
  • Proof of active participation (via e.g. abstract acceptance email, reference to website, recommendation letter)
  • Letter from the department or supervisor stating that no funds are available from their institution.

Selection Process

All applications are evaluated by the SETAC Europe Awards Committee with support from the office.

Conditions

Grant recipients must adhere to the conditions, in order to get the grant:

  • Grants are personal and cannot be given to others
  • Recipients must attend the full meeting (Sunday – Thursday)
  • Recipients are expected to adhere to the SETAC Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct

SETAC reserves the right to retract any made commitments if the grant recipient does not adhere to the conditions set for this grant. In case of an effective revocation of the grant, the received benefits are to be returned and any incurred costs will be billed to the recipient.
